Programme Philosophy

The Master of Education programme is designed as scholarly-practitioners programme generally to prepare graduates for advancements or new roles within their respective fields as practitioners. For educators, the programme provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to obtain leadership positions in schools or to add endorsements to certificates. The program is designed for classroom teachers, school administrators, coaches or adult educators who want to enhance their professional practice while building on their prior professional experience and engaging in a dynamic online community. The programme is therefore designed to develop learners’ methods of inquiry and can lead to careers in teaching and research. The program also draws on current theories of learning and development to understand the role of technology in learning and instruction. The degree thus prepares students for leadership roles in various professional settings.  Through didactic courses and hands-on training opportunities, students learn to manage organizations and develop solutions to issues in education.

 

Programme Learning

At the end of the programme, students shall be able to:

  • Demonstrate specialized field knowledge as they integrate knowledge and technology across content areas
  • Use differing perspectives to engage all learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem solving related to authentic local and global issues.
  • Apply theories of learning, instruction, and motivation relating to the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, physical, and moral development of all learners;
  • Incorporate assessment and technology in their planning and instructional strategies as a means of obtaining continual feedback used to improve student learning, classroom management strategies, and pedagogical approaches.
  • Generate meaningful research on pedagogical practices, student learning, and educational issues and policies to actively investigate
  • Explores new teaching and learning ideas that will improve teaching and learning and advance the profession.
  • Explore effective approaches for creating inclusive learning environments that are welcoming and accepting of diverse learners
  • Engage in critical reflection on how their own frames of reference and potential biases impact expectations for and relationships with learners and their families.
