MASTER OF ARTS IN MASS COMMUNICATION PROGRAMME

Programme philosophy

The Master of Arts in Mass communication is designed to meet the needs of the labour market and educational needs of recent graduates and professionals. The program’s curriculum emphasizes the integrated nature of the communication discipline. For example, the program offers education in Communication research, theories of mass communication, public opinion and media, theories of development and development communication, communication regulations and ethics, new media technology, and communication planning. Therefore, the programme aims to provide the opportunity for career enhancement and/or further graduate studies.

 

Programme Objectives

o   To strengthen and widen mass communication training at postgraduate level

o   Develop students’understanding of the complex interplay between communication and development

o   Develop a systematic understanding of knowledge, and a critical awareness of current issues and new insights informed by the field of study and professional practice

o   Evaluate current research in the discipline of mass communication

o   Explore the  impact of technology on the way people share information, work together, and promote expertise and/or products

o   Provide students with an in-depth knowledge of a range of multimedia communication stools

  •    Develop the student's creative, expressive and inquiry practices and skills
  • Develop students’ understanding of relevant media law and ethics
  • To equip students with communication problem-solving skills through communication planning and auditing skills.
