Course Description
This course introduces students to critical thinking and scholarly writing to develop their pre-requisite skills for graduate programmes and professional practice. It further provides opportunities for students to acquire and practice skills necessary to succeed in online learning. Consistent with the focus of Schools on the scholar-practitioner model, students will also critically examine and apply relevant educational theory to their practice. Finally, the course provides students with the ability to articulate and examine their professional purpose and how it aligns with their chosen degree program and professional career aspirations.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Evaluate emerging practices in relation to
theories and concepts
- Explore
the elements of good teaching.
- Expand their knowledge and understanding in the
area of Teaching and Learning through learning, based on critical engagement
with current Education theory, research, policy and practice.
- Demonstrate appropriate levels of critical
analysis, reflection and contextual awareness in relation to the field of
teaching and learning in education
- Develop critical educational practice through
analysis of reflection on and engagement with this knowledge and understanding
in their professional settings
- Gain insight into the nature of learners and of
the learning process for the design and implementation effective teaching
strategies
