Course Description

This course gives a synopsis of all essential aspects of strategic management: strategy analysis (internal and external), formulation of strategies at different levels of the organization, and strategy implementation. The course will also help students reflect on the strategic purpose of organizations, and their role towards shareholders, stakeholders and society in general. The idea is to provide students with strategy insights, with particular reference to Ghanaian firms; reflect on strategic dilemmas; and practice strategy tools to enable them become confident and creative strategic thinkers. Theoretically, the course will examine theories associated with effective strategy development, integration, and implementation across all functional areas of business operations. The course finally aims at equipping students with the skills required to become strategic thinkers and leaders in today’s complex global business environment and practice and applying them to solve contemporary business issues.

 Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Develop their Strategic thinking abilities
  • Apply the strategic management process in business situation
  • Execute the elements of the process, such as internal and external environmental analyses
  • Master the use of tools for strategic business analysis
  • Determine relevant strategies (broad and narrow)
  • Meaningfully debate leadership issues with insight
  • conduct literature review of contemporary strategic management issues
